McCain tells New Orleans: Never again
After visiting some of the crumbling, hurricane-damaged homes in this city's Lower 9th Ward, Sen. John McCain condemned the Bush administration's response to Hurricane Katrina Thursday as a failure in leadership that went all the way to the top.
It was some of the harshest language McCain has used to distance himself from Bush, whose approval ratings have dipped below 30% in some polls.

Clinton campaign working to erase debts
Challenged to compete with Barack Obama's surprising and unparalleled fundraising ability, Clinton's campaign ended February with more than $8.7 million in debts during a period in which she lent her effort $5 million, federal records show. Obama, in contrast, reported $625,058 in debts.
Clinton, a proponent of universal health care, listed having nearly $300,000 in unpaid invoices from health insurance firms that cover her staff. Her campaign also listed owing $3,161 to her Park Ridge alma mater, Maine South High School, where her campaign held an event on Feb. 4, the day before the Illinois primary. read more

Texas Democrats: Tweak, don't kill caucus system
Texas Democrats said Monday that the party's lengthy, sometimes-chaotic caucus system for picking delegates needs to be changed but shouldn't be scrapped.
"People who are not political junkies may come away feeling that this is a real contact blood sport – and I couldn't blame them," said state Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie. read more
