Since the first Xbox console was released years back, Microsoft’s online feature known as Live has supplied the ability to play multiplayer games on the web. The system formed the benchmark by which all future online system support would be compared, and has gathered great popularity through promotion of arguably the greatest online multiplayer titles ever produced. It has lead to quite a lot of commotion, then, since Microsoft have claimed that original Xbox Live cancellation is to be implemented this Spring.

This statement has led to various questions, some of which will be answered here. The very first thing to remember is this announcement does not include Xbox 360 and games for that system. Only the original Xbox, and games released for that platform, will be affected by this. Microsoft assure gamers that the original Xbox Live cancellation was not made without consideration and they are fully thankful to the users who have made Live the success it is.

The announcement is a bit of a sore point to some users. Though greatly outdated and overshadowed by the 360, the Xbox holds a dedicated cult popularity, with a number of their titles still being enjoyed by users. The clear example is Halo 2, which retains a sizeable fanbase on Xbox Live. But being a game released on the first platform, it too will be brought low by original Xbox Live cancellation.

And so why are Microsoft implementing original Xbox Live Cancellation? In order to apply full resources and time to the Xbox 360 and approaching projects, they are cancelling this feature. With exciting features like Project Natal coming our way, Microsoft are set on putting all they’ve got into providing the best theypossibly can, and assure gamers that the end result will be worthit. The original Xbox Live Cancellation is sad for those involved, but the future promises grander things and Microsoft want to throw all reserves into providing the excellent service they are famed for.
