In the US there is a ban on any top designed for children which has a drawstring attached to it. Whether it is on the hood, the neck or the waist all drawstrings on tops are banned. The ban was prompted by a number of deaths over the past few years. Children have been strangled by the string as they play on slides or get tangled up. There have been some major cases where big companies who manufacture or sell children’s clothes have been fined. The Consumer Product Safety Commission made tops with drawstrings illegal as they pose a serious risk to the safety of the child wearer.
