10th November, 1775 is a date which will live in infamy: this date commemorates the founding of the United States Marine Corps.

Today, I will be celebrating my beloved Corps’ birthday in town and I will later be reading The Art of War bu Sun Tzu, a required reading for U.S. Marines, FMF Navy Corpsmen and other defenders of freedom everywhere.

Former President Ronald Wilson Reagan — the 40th President of the United States — once made the following statement:

“Today, we understand that peace through strength is more than a slogan. In a world such as ours, it’s a moral necessity, and in the tough job of preserving the peace and defending our nation’s independence and freedom, the U.S. Marines have always been there, ready to do their duty.”

He also made the following statement:

“Some people spend their entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference… ”
… the Marines don’t have that problem.”

Happy Birthday, Marines! Carry On!

Any U.S. Marine — who is squared-away and well-polished like the brass buttons on his or her Dress Blues blouse — knows the origins of the United States Marine Corps. In fact, a U.S. Marine is a unique breed of warrior, who proudly possess knowledge and jealously guards many secrets to which most outsiders are not privy.

What are those secret, Marine?

I can’t tell you. Why? Breaking the Oath of my beloved Corps is a major offense of which I shall never be guilty of committing. However, I am willing to refer you to a little-known source that will whet your insatiable appetite for more knowledge:

Call this special number anytime — day, night, holiday or weekend.

1-800-627-4637

… Chesty Puller, Smedley Butler and Dan Daley would be proud of you.
